& FAQ

Chess is more interesting when it's taught the right way. Here's how we think about it — and answers to what people usually ask.

Our Philosophy

Chess is a conversation. Learning to play well means learning to listen first.

Most people who want to learn chess hit the same wall: generic YouTube videos, overwhelming theory, or apps that just throw puzzles at you without any context — all content, no coach.

Real improvement comes from someone watching how you think — sitting across from you, or on the other side of a screen — and helping you see the game differently.

Our approach is structured but never rigid. We work from where you actually are — not where a curriculum says you should be. And we make it fun, because if it's not fun, you won't keep playing.

We believe chess is for everyone. Not just the players who grew up with it, not just the serious competitors. Anyone can pick it up, enjoy it, and get good at it — especially with the right guide.

Common Questions

FAQ

Do I need to have played chess before?

Not at all. Most of our students start from zero. We begin with the absolute basics and move at whatever pace works for you. The goal is to leave every session feeling like you actually learned something — not overwhelmed.

Do I need to commit to multiple lessons?

Nope. Our lessons are specifically designed for travelers who might only have one or two sessions available. Even a single hour can give you a solid foundation and a clear path to keep improving on your own.

How does a typical lesson look?

We start with a quick conversation about where you are in the game and what you want to get out of it. From there, the lesson is built around your goals — whether that's learning the basics, working on a specific weakness, or preparing for an upcoming tournament.

What's included after the lesson?

You get digital notes covering everything we worked on — key concepts, positions to remember, resources to go deeper. Think of it as a personalized chess journal for your session.

Can I take lessons remotely?

Yes — all lesson formats are available online. We use Lichess for the board and any video call tool you prefer. Works just as well as in person.

What skill levels do you teach?

From complete beginners to intermediate players (up to ~1500 ELO). For advanced players, we offer personalized coaching — get in touch and we'll figure out what makes sense.

How much do lessons cost?

See the full breakdown on the Lessons & Pricing page. Short version: $85/session for beginners, $120 for intermediate, custom pricing for personalized coaching.

How do I book a session?

Via Calendly — just pick a slot that works for you. No back-and-forth needed.
