About This Hub
Cusco & Sacred Valley
Looking for somewhere to play chess in Cusco or the Sacred Valley? This is my current base. I offer private chess lessons in Cusco, Pisac, Urubamba and Ollantaytambo, with the meeting place and time agreed before each session.
In Cusco between trips, staying in Pisac, or spending a few days in Urubamba or Ollantaytambo? Bring your questions or a game you want to understand. We can start with the rules, work on spotting threats, or look at why a promising position went wrong.
Lessons are available in English or Spanish, in person or online. One session is fine if you are passing through. If you stay longer, we can build a routine and keep it going online when you leave Peru.

Quick Answers
Where can I play chess in Cusco?
You can book a private chess lesson with me in Cusco. We agree on a suitable meeting place before the session, so please contact me before heading to a venue. This is coaching with games and practice, not a drop-in chess club or a permanent playing room.
Can I play chess or take lessons in Pisac?
Yes. In-person chess lessons are available in Pisac in the Sacred Valley. Tell me where you are staying and your preferred times so we can coordinate a place to meet. Online lessons are also available.
Do you offer chess lessons in Urubamba and Ollantaytambo?
Yes. I offer private chess coaching in Urubamba and Ollantaytambo by arrangement. Contact me to confirm the meeting place and timing before booking your travel. You can also take the lesson online from either town.
Can beginners join, and what languages do you teach in?
Beginners are welcome, including people who have never played. I teach in English and Spanish and adapt the lesson to your level. You do not need a rating or any opening theory.
Can I continue online after leaving the Sacred Valley?
Yes. All lessons can be taken online, whether you are in Cusco, elsewhere in Peru, or already on your next trip. We use Lichess and a video call to work through positions together.

The biggest mistake adult beginners make (I have seen it in 21 cities)
After coaching in cafés from Medellín to Dharamkot, the same mistake shows up: information overload disguised as progress. Here is what to do instead.
Chess apps are great for tactics. They are terrible at teaching you how to think.
Puzzle rush is fun. But if you cannot explain your thought process out loud, the tactics are not sticking. Here is the one thing apps miss and a real coach catches.
